About Sip Japan
Japanese whisky has earned a place alongside the best spirits in the world. But navigating it can be confusing: which bottles are genuinely distilled in Japan, which retailers ship to your country, and what should you actually buy?
Sip Japan exists to answer those questions. We catalog Japanese whiskies with verified tasting notes, track JSLMA compliance so you know what's genuine, profile distilleries from Hokkaido to Kagoshima, and show you where to buy from trusted retailers worldwide.
What We Do
- ✓ Track Japanese whiskies with verified tasting notes and specs
- ✓ Flag JSLMA compliance so you know which bottles are genuinely Japanese whisky
- ✓ Profile distilleries with production details, history, and visit information
- ✓ Monitor trusted retailers worldwide for availability and pricing
- ✓ Publish honest guides, comparisons, and recommendations
Why JSLMA Matters
Not everything labeled "Japanese whisky" is made in Japan. Some bottles use imported bulk spirit from Scotland, Canada, or elsewhere, then bottle it in Japan. The Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association (JSLMA) introduced voluntary standards in 2021 to define what qualifies as genuine Japanese Whisky.
We track JSLMA compliance for every whisky in our database and flag it clearly. Non-compliant bottles can still be excellent (Nikka From The Barrel is a community favorite), but you deserve to know what you're buying. Read our full JSLMA guide →
